Dear Citizens of Scott County, Tennessee,

It is with great pride and excitement that my family and I would like to officially announce to you my intentions to run for the Office of Sheriff in Scott County, Tennessee for the year of 2026.

Yes, I have been told that it is way too early to announce that I am running for Sheriff. Usually, the normal is to wait until January or February of election year to announce and try to rush meeting as many people as I can for 8 months. The reason I want to announce this now in 2024 is because I want to have more time and more opportunities to build a relationship with you all and  actually meet all of you that I possibly can. I want to attend local events and support our community programs, organizations and efforts. I want to have more time to address concerns that citizens are having with our current administration. I don’t want to rush this. I feel like this is the most important issue. Communication and partnership with our public. I want to run on my own merits and explain to each and every one of you all who give me the opportunity to, my visions and plans to do things better. So this is the reason I am making my intentions clear now in 2024.

With over two decades of law enforcement experience, a degree in criminal justice, over 90 certifications and licenses from high master level police and leadership trainings, I believe that I have the mastery, the experience and the skills that are needed to make our community a safer place to live and assist our community as your proactive Sheriff.

I was raised in a law enforcement and medical service home. I am the son of Andy and Ona Lewallen. My father served Scott County, as a police officer, consecutively for over 45 years, up until 2023 where he was forced to medically retire after an on-duty accident. My mother has served Scott County in several medical field capacities such as EMT, paramedic, dispatcher and is currently a nurse. All of my life, I watched every evening, while my father, Andy put on his police uniform, boots and duty belt and leave and go to work. I knew that one day that I would grow up and be able to do my part keeping our county safe. And I was able to do just that. Over the past several decades, I have fought tirelessly and successfully trying to stamp out drugs and drug related crimes here in Scott County. I have served the citizens of Scott County in several law enforcement capacities with pride and it has been my greatest professional experience.

Scott County is a beautiful place to live, work, and raise a family. I am asking the citizens of Scott County, Tennessee to join me, trust in me, and elect me to serve as your Sheriff and together we can progress our county law enforcement toward a more educated, highly trained, more professional and proactive department of men and women who are ready and willing to serve you.

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

Kris D. Lewallen
